kin style-date night

September 21, 2012 |

Let’s face it, a mom’s day-to-day wardrobe can leave something to be desired. It’s hard to get dolled up just to get messed with food, markers, paints, and the other unmentionables that come with parenting young children. But when the stars align and I get out with grown-ups, it’s nice to play dress-up. My kids always tend to go nuts right when I start getting ready which is why I often end up in some slightly spruced up version of what I’m already wearing, usually skinny jeans. Here I paired them with a cute leather jacket and some heels to make a comfy, but fun date night outfit. This video was a true family affair, complete with the girls and Mike’s big debut. A little chaotic, yes, but still fun. I think that’s why I did something I don’t usually do, breaking one of my own style rules-mixed metals. If I could go back, I would have worn silver accessories because of the silver studs in the jacket. This is just one of my little pet-peeves, you may like it. If you do, let me know! I could use the ego boost! Enjoy.

I love your style videos! You make it seem so easy… I have the hardest time putting together a great date-night outfit. I have great taste — and I can match things together — but for some reason when I put them ON, it just doesn’t work. What am I doing wrong? Maybe it’s a confidence thing.

Latrina, sometimes it can be a confidence thing, for example-this jacket is way out of my comfort zone and based on some of the comments from YouTube I may not have pulled it off. But I felt comfortable in it and it made me feel good, so I went with it. If you don’t love something or have to think too much about whether it’s “working”, it’s probably not. Clothes should make you feel good and represent the better part of yourself. Keep it simple, trust your instincts, have fun with it and you can’t go wrong;)

Great advice, Piper. Thank you. 🙂 I think I try too hard to make an outfit “work”… and it is usually so far out of my comfort zone that I can’t feel good in it. I don’t know what these youtubers were talking about… but I think it looked great. And if you’re comfortable in it. Then that’s A WIN.

I love your style videos as well! I get so many ideas on reworking my wardrobe. I don’t get to go out often but when I do I love that you have given me numerous ideas to choose from without spending any extra money.
