Never say never. I said I’d never wear denim with denim and here I am wearing it, and loving it. I think the key is in the color. I like the mix of light, almost white denim with a darker blue. When Mike and I hit the road for Mammoth last weekend I was inspired by the rustic scenery and got my mountain chic on with moccasins and turquoise. On the way up we pulled over to take a few pics at Red Rock Canyon, something I’ve always wanted to do but never have. Now I think I’ll always have to, it’s just too pretty not to. It reminded me that the joy of a trip really is in the journey, not just the destination. We’re always so amped to get out-of-town that we hardly ever stop to take it all in. Sure it was easier to do this time because we didn’t have the kids with us, but what 2.5 and 5-year-old wouldn’t want to stop and run around a cool spot like this? Next time for sure. Create a new family tradition, check.

I’m a jeans girl. Scratch that, I’m a denim girl. I love jeans, chambray shirts, and I LOVE this Staci Woo denim/chambray dress. A friend gave it to me a few years ago and I don’t think she realizes what a hole she filled in my closet, and my life. OK, a little dramatic, but I really love this dress and I really love her. Anyways! One of my favorite things about denim is how easy it is to accessorize. Almost every color and material looks good with it, it can be dressed up or down just by changing shoes and it just feels cool. Here I threw on two of my old favorites, my Lovely Bird wide-brimmed hat and my favorite booties, and one of my new favorites, this awesome Madewell tote, my new “mom bag in disguise”, while exploring this gorgeous location in the West Valley. Sure, we may not have great night life, or the “cool” vibe LA is known for, but the scenery is tough to beat. (Plus we’re 20 minutes from the beach, just sayin’)

Let’s face it, a mom’s day-to-day wardrobe can leave something to be desired. It’s hard to get dolled up just to get messed with food, markers, paints, and the other unmentionables that come with parenting young children. But when the stars align and I get out with grown-ups, it’s nice to play dress-up. My kids always tend to go nuts right when I start getting ready which is why I often end up in some slightly spruced up version of what I’m already wearing, usually skinny jeans. Here I paired them with a cute leather jacket and some heels to make a comfy, but fun date night outfit. This video was a true family affair, complete with the girls and Mike’s big debut. A little chaotic, yes, but still fun. I think that’s why I did something I don’t usually do, breaking one of my own style rules-mixed metals. If I could go back, I would have worn silver accessories because of the silver studs in the jacket. This is just one of my little pet-peeves, you may like it. If you do, let me know!
